Action is heating up in Gawler tennis with the finals just two week’s away and spots still up for grabs.

South Gawler proved too strong at home as it toppled Tod Street 9 sets/91 games to 7/67.

Strong singles efforts from Matthew Nesbit, Dion Lowe, Sallyanne Lowe and Naomi Griffiths saw South seize the lead nearing the closing doubles. However, Corey Coleman and Rick Bailey’s efforts in their 7-6 doubles brought Tod Street back, although it wasn’t quite enough.

At the Gawler Association Courts, Xavier Saints (14/104) thumped Kapunda Black (2/42) to continue pushing for a higher spot on the ladder.

In division 2-3, Willaston Blue lost to Lyndoch Gold 11/83 to 5/54.

Willaston Red maintained a winning streak with a 14/90 to 2/46 victory over Lyndoch Blue at Lyndoch. Angela Edwards was the top performer of the day, winning her singles 6-0 and her doubles’ 6-0 and 6-4. Darren Pettrey won a challenging singles 7-6, and both of his doubles, 6-4 and 6-2.

Willaston United defeated Keyneton 13/91 to 3/39 at Keyneton.
